Furthar off the beaten track

G,day all, well i headed out for a two week stint in the bush looking for a lost and abandoned mine, [ its lost cos i havnt found it yet ] first stop was an area ive looked at before and i spent 2 days there and found just 3 small nuggets, the pic above was taken from a hill not far from where i found the 3 nuggets and the white speck right of centre is the campervan, after this i went looking for the mines and it took all day but i finally found them and they were about 2 ks nth from where the map says they were, i unhooked the camper from the trailer and found that the rear step/bullbar and tow bar was just hanging on by a few lose bolts, the roads are terrible at the moment, 2 bolts had been sheared off and the rest were bent and i couldnt tighten them, i was about 20ks from the nearest dirt rd and well off the beaten track so i decided to stay for a couple of days seeing as though i was already there, alot of searching and walking in all directions around the mines and i came up with ziltch gold but the veiws and birds that i saw made up for it, the first parrots i saw were Port Lincoln parrots, large birds and emerald green with a blck head which looked amazing in the wild, the second parrot i saw i couldnt identify until i got on the internet when back in town but it blew me away with its colours, it was a Mulga parrot which i had never seen before and the pics i took were shockers so i downloaded some pics of them so you could see what they look like, after another day i decided not to work on the van out here in case i made it worce so i headed slowly back to town 90ks away and broke a fan belt on the way in. Its 29/8/12 and im in Laverton c/van park again and i spent all day fixing the van and bought new bolts at the servo and now its ready to go again but ive booked in for a week so i will do some local detecting until next week when i head off again, the gold has dropped off a little latley so i hope that changes soon, cheers Stu
below [A few good nuggets i found near town ]

2 today

G,day all, decided to go out today and have a look at some goldfields near town and had a look on google earth and found an old gold field 9ks sth of Laverton called Biddies patch, i got out there about 9 this morning, this gold field has been heavily worked with dozers in which they first detect it then scape 4" off the top and detect it again and keep going until they hit bedrock so you would think all the gold would be gone, not so, when they worked this area the detecters were pretty old and with these new detectors you can still find gold on these scrapes, i got 2 nuggets, the first was about 8" down and was a very quiet signal and it weighed 1.09 grams, the second nugget was only 4" deep and gave a strong signal and it weighed .7 of a gram, not alot but its better than getting none, seeyas later, Stu

Just a few

Hi all, not much to report this week as i spent 4 days exploring new areas with a lot of walking and im thinking of buying a postie scooter so it will be quicker to cover ground. I still havnt seen any camals but plenty of their tracks and dung, lots of Emus and birds, one day as i was walking through the bush and one lone budgie flew around which was weird as ive always seen them in large flocks. the weather has been great but for a few showers one day and it was overcast yesterday, i think Perth has been getting rain and from what i hear im glad im not in Melbourne. After the first few days of not finding any gold i went to a place where ive got gold before and dug up 6 nuggets for 6.5 grams with the largest weighing 3.7 grams, not alot but it will pay for fuel for the trip. Im spending the week in Laverton and intend to do some detecting close to town before heading out for a week or two out bush, Stu
 Some crazy Emus

PROSPECTING TRIP

above is all the gold i found on this trip, the big one on the right has 26 grams of gold the middle specimen has 7 grams and the one on the left has 18 grams of gold  [below] not much gold visible but theres 26 grams of gold inside
get lost out here ya in deep trouble
 Steves 58 gram nugget,
me with a specimen with 18.5 grams of gold in it, the hole was 12 inches deep,
Paul with his specimen with 3 ounces of gold in it, the hole was 24 inches deep,
g,day everyone, well i have just got back from 2 weeks out bush with a few other fellas and had a ball and as some of these guys are seasoned prospectors i learnt alot about setting the detector right and prospecting, the first week i found only small nuggets but the second week i dug the larger nugget which doesnt show much gold but it has 26 grams of gold inside it, to find out how much gold is in it you weigh it dry [ as it is ] then weigh it suspended in water, multiply the dry weight by 1.9 then multiply the wet weight by 3.1 then subtract the low number from the high number to give you the weight in gold. dry= 81.43g x 1.9 = 154.717g,  wet= 58.3g x 3.1 = 180.73g, now 180.73 - 154.717 = 26.01 grams of gold. On this trip i met 2 guys over from victoria for the 2 weeks and one of them [Paul] found a specimen with 3 ounces of gold and another with just under 2 ounces, im very happy about my results which i also got a specimen with 18.5 grams of gold and another with 7.27 grams in it, the total weight i found was 80.84 grams or 2 ounces 18.6 grams, not bad for 2 weeks work. The larger specimen with 26 grams of gold is the largest ive found and it was 19 inches deep easily the deepest ive found and the deeper you dig the bigger the gold will be. Another bloke who lives in laverton found a nice flat water worn 58 gram nugget which is just under 2 ounces, im now in leonora for a week as i have run out of supplies and need to buy more before heading out again to a different spot, dont forget to leave a comment, cheers Stu.

Gold slowly adding up

just the 11 nuggets for the week but got a nice 3 gramer,

total nuggets off this patch, 101 for 41.6 grams

Hi everyone, i worked hard all week trying to get to 100 nuggets off this patch and i just got there, i ended up with 101 nuggets for a total weight of 41.6 grams or 1 ounce 10.5 grams, the weather has been cloudy with some showers and its gettin pretty darn cold at night as well as windy coldish days. Im staying in laveton for a few nights then on saterday im heading nth about 120ks to a new area, im going with some profesional prospectors who run tours for people and have a number of quad bikes and they have a group from a metal detecting club from NSW [34 people] coming over and have asked me if id like to go with them and help out looking after the group, im not getting paid but it will be a great experience watching how the pros go about it and the area that we re going is very remote but rich in gold so ill be giving the GPS a workout as i will be back there by myself very soon after. the gold [right] is my total from WA, 206 nuggets weighing 105 grams or 3 ounces 12 grams, cheers Stu,
ps, still lookin for that big one.
