G,day all, just got back from camping out for 4 nights and looking forward to a shower and then get some washing done, weathers great about mid 20s id think, i have been getting up at 5;30 am and seeing some great sunrises but pictures not as good as the real thing, detecting is better in the mornings before the ground hots up and after the weeks detecting ive dug up 47 nuggets weighing 27.66 grams which in dollar terms is about $1,350 give or take, not a bad weeks work, im still to find a biggin and the largest i found this week was 2.74 grams but ill take it, im just staying overnight in the caravan park as i want to get back to this spot ive found as its still got more nuggets to give up and so far the area where ive found them is about an acre in size and getting bigger, just hope the nuggets get bigger too, hope you like the pictures, catcha next friday, stu.

Thursday 19 April 2012

g,day all, went for a drive out to some abandoned mines on wednesday, the roads wernt to bad some corrigations now and then that rattle the van to bits, saw some brumbys but by the time i stoped to take photos they were on their way[ very flighty] also saw 4 eagles on the side of the road but same thing happened, the eagles are as big as turkys, i found the mines after a fair while driving through the scrub and the gps getting a real workout, without the gps you wouldnt find anything, ran into some miners who were a real help and said if i need anything when camping out there to just go visit them, they will be about 20 odd ks away, didnt find any gold but gold bearing ground just goes on forever, im heading out again for just a day trip on friday mainly looking for good camp sites and a little detecting. I have a new phone number and ive lost everybodies numbers so send me a text with all your mobile and home numbers, you should have my new number, cheers stu.

Hi all, these pics were taken from a small hill over looking the town of laverton, the towns not much to look at but the surounding scienery is just amazing, the sky and countryside just goes on forever, the flora is fantastic, blues greens grays and the red soil its all just picture perfect, i might be going out detecting tomorrow so ill have some great pics of the countryside [ maybe some gold to] i still havve alot of work on the internet trying to work out all their rules regarding mine leases as i dont want a run in with angry miners, it realy is the wild west out here, the caravan park is pretty scungy but theres a fair few prospectors that are here. theres lots of mines around and all opencut and seems that in a hundred years WA will just be a big hole in the ground, catcha later, stu

super pit

visited the super pit in kalgoolie, just amazing, before the super pit the area was called the golden mile with lots of small underground mines and in the 80s Allan Bond started buying all the small leases and opencut mine all of it and get all the gold inbetween the mines but just before he got them all he went broke and another mining company bought it and finished his idea of opencut mining and its the richest mile of gold bearing ground in the world, im told each truck has about 4 or 5 ounces of gold [ size of golf ball ] in it.

Thursday 12 April 2012

g,day all,  i left streaky bay on sunday morning and drove to ceduna and filled up the car and the 6 gerry cans as i was told it would be cheaper than steaky bay, it was $1;59 a litre so that was ok, i was hoping i would be able to drive to norsman on all this fuel and avoid paying over $2 a litre on the nullarbor, i only drove a coupla hundred ks and turned off the hyway and stayed 2 nights at fowlers bay hoping to do more fishing off the surf, i got to the caravan park which was pretty cramped and everybody i talked to said the fishing was pretty crap at the moment but i was still keen to have a go, i was also told i can only get to the surf beach in a 4wd but that i could walk over the sand dunes which was a more direct route, i decided to have a look at the dunes and it was about 3ks of dunes so i just went site seeing for 2 days and as you can see from the photos the dunes go on forever, the place looks good when fishing is on, i left fowlers bay on tuesday morning for the long trip across the nullarbor and it was pretty enjoyable sitting on 80ks checking out the scienery as i went and speeding up to 90ks when cars or trucks came up behind me, no road rage out here, whats happened to all the coach buses as i never saw any, after going through WA border and handing over 2 bananas i only drove about 3ks and got pulled over for breath test, i got to kalgoolie thursday morning after staying 50ks south of kalgoolie in a mining camp wednesday night, got my miners licence and some geo maps from mines department and checked out telstra and optus coverage for some of the small towns that i will be staying and no optus so now got a pre paid telstra phone number but i will also be able to get internet coverage too. kalgoolie has some great old pubs and took a few pics, heading off to laverton on monday i think anyway catchas later, STU

time for a fish

The drive from adelade to port augusta has to be the most boring drive in australia unless snowtown intrests you, what a dump, not for me all i looked for in that town was a public toilet to show them what i think, after 2 nights sleeping at roadside stops and not getting much sleep [ trucks keep you awake] i was keen to head off Hyway 1 and head for port lincoln but after more thought decided to go to steaky bay, after buying some fuel half way between port augusta and streaky bay the car started to splutter going up hills mainly when i had to put the foot down for a bit more juice, thought it must be dodgy fuel so kept driving holding up a few cars when going up hill, got to steaky bay just in time thursday avo to buy new fuel filter as it was easter nothing open till tuesday, problem fixed. weather fine so booked in for 3 nights at caravan park and was keen for some fishing, next morning the wind blew like crazy so went site seeing and to check out some surf beaches for the next day, saterday morning woke up to calm weather so i drove to bait shop and got tide charts and catch sizes and limits also asked how much for fishing liecence, no licence needed here i was told, well thats $20 stayin in my sky rocket, how much for a block of pilchads, $20 she says, doh!!   Headed for the back beach on possibly the roughest road everrrrrr, there was nice gutter in the surf right where i parked but i could see a coupla deeper lookin gutters furthar up the beach about 1k, the tide was about 3 hours from high so i just put one rod in as there also was some weed causing havoc, half hour later got a nice bite and not much of a fight but landed what was to be a sweep, nice size about 2 lb, decided to keep it, the weed was disapearing so thought i would put both lines in then whammm the beach king [ my surf rod] doubled over and of course i was puting bait on the other rod so by the time i got to the rod the line had gone slack, reeled the line in quick the whamm hes still on, he put up a great fight and i would say possibly the biggest salmon ive caught and i forgot to take a pic, cooked em both up with the batter i got at the fishing night that i went to with rich and shaz but there wasnt enough to batter all the fillets, im glad i kept the sweep as its nealy as nice as whiting, looks similar but bigger fillets.

blown tyre

well i left on the 2nd of april and after a day and night in maryborough detecting a spot where i had found gold previously i decided to head for south australia, half an hour over the border and bang, trailer tyre blew to pieces, cheap retreds, after a slow trip through the adelade hills and testing the car brakes to the limit coming down the hills into adelade i bought a new tyre [ no retreds] i had to laugh driving through adelade as there was no traffic anywhere even at 9;30 am peak hour, hello anyone live here, anyway heres a pic of the blow tyre.
