NUGGETS AINT NUGGETS ?

Only the 5 nuggets this week as one of my coils broke and had to be sent back to a factory in Adelade for the second time, maybe they should make them in Aus instead of some sweatshop in downtown Thailand. To the worker at trevaskis that said these aint nuggets, well if they make a noise when dropped into the container then its a NUGGET.  Tally for this patch is now 76 nuggets for 30.23 grams, nearly an ounce.
 Gums are in full bloom

 emus
G,day all, well after a couple of weeks i only got 3 nuggets and with the weather starting to turn bad i went back to laverton as after heavy rain they close the roads and you can get stuck out bush, after 2 days in the van park i decided to camp out at a gold field close to town only 20 ks away, i found a good spot to camp and went detecting in the afternoon and found 2 nuggets, the next morning i started to chain the area which is puting a rope tied to my belt about 150 cm long with a lenth of chain 30 cm long tied to the end of the rope and this is draged along behind me and it leaves a line in the dirt and you can see where u have walked, i dug 14 nuggets that day followed by 13 nuggets the next then my largest haul ever in one day 19 nuggets then 7 then 6 then 3 then 2 then 4 then 1 yeaterday morning, total for the 10 days is 71 nuggets and total weight 28.3 grams with the largest 2.7 grams which is the shape of an L, i promised louise a nugget to put on a necklace for her 21st and i couldnt believe i would find one in the shape of an L, my gold tally for the trip so far is 176 nuggets weighing over 3 ounces. I had a run in with 4 emus which scared the hell out of me as at the time i was kneeking down digging and i looked up and they were staring down at me from about 5 metres away, from where i was sitting they looked about 10 feet tall and i jumped up and they walked away i got a pic of them but i couldnt get close to them again. On monday im heading back to this spot again as i think i can get more gold and it would be nice to find one about an ounce but the patch that i found is next to the main track and people are sure to see all the freshly dug soil and stop to detect so im keen to get back,.Im in leonora van park and will refuel, do some washing, buy more food and HAVE A SHOWER, you can wash everyday out bush but you cant beat a long hot shower. im starting to do more cooking on the open fire to save gas, you have to watch that no lizards or bugs jump out of the wood into your pot or pan which has happened, a large lizard jumped out of a log just missing my diiner and ive found a grasshopper in my coffie which must have got in my kettle. This new patch of gold is in a gold field called Hawks nest and is sth west of laverton. catchas later,    Stu.

Saturday 9 June 2012

G,day, well not much gold in the past 2 weeks, just the three nuggets and the larger one this week, its almost a gram and the three total 1.7grams maybe enough to pay for fuel but better than none. I came across tracks and a resting place for a camel as i can tell by their marks in the sand, im heading back that way next week and i hope hes a loner and doesnt have a harem as they get nasty if you get in between the male and his harem by accendent. Every time i go out detecting i have to take a pic of somthing and this time i climbed another rocky hill and found a rock garden that a landscaper would charge thousands for, not just the plants but the colour of the rocks, i have to keep my eyes open when climbing these rocks as the death adder around these parts you just wouldnt see until your on top of him and their deadly and scary looking snakes but i havnt seen any sign of snakes yet. I was realy stoaked when i came across a flock of about 50 odd bourke parrots and it was great to see them in the wild as ive had averies since i was 14 and the bourke parrot is my favourite bird ive had in them, they run along like road runners then when they take flight are very swift and direct, they are hard to get close to and taking a pic of them would be useless as they would be impossible to see amongst the rocks and scrub unless i buy a good camera. Im heading back out monday morning for another week and have some spots in mind that might bring a bit more gold, catchas later. Stu

Sons of Gwalia mine

[top], miners hut as it was left in 1963, the open cut with new underground mining, [below], miners hut kitchen, Hover house built in 1898 for manager Herbert Hover,,the old pub closed 1964,
g,day all, today 1st of june i visited the gwalia mine in leonora and its still exactly how it was left when the mine closed down in 1963, its a historic site and has a museum with all the old assay equipment still in place, lots of buildings and all the mechinery that worked the mine. its called the sons of gwalia mine and because the price of gold is so high a mining company has started mining it again but not open cut and they say there is still 2 million ounces of gold to be dug, they are only getting about 5 grams of gold to the ton but that is good with the new mechinery now days. the mine was founded in 1896 and bought by an english company in 1898 and they sent out a young american mining engineer named Herbert Hover who later became the president of the USA. there are alot of old miners huts still there and when the mine closed they just packed their bags and left everything else as you can see from the pics, Stu
